The Gateway Public Schools Induction Program is a two-year, job-embedded program designed to support beginning teachers in their first years. You'll receive personalized, one-on-one mentoring, fostering your growth as a reflective and anti-racist practitioner.
Our focus is entirely on your learning and development, ensuring a supportive environment for your continued success in the profession.
Program assigns you a mentor (and a content coach if needed).
Join the kickoff session with your mentor to learn program details.
In August and September, your mentor will do four grounding observations to see you in action and identify teaching strengths and potential growth areas.
Using data from the four grounding observations, you and your mentor will co-assess your strengths and growth areas for the California Standards for the Teaching Profession (CSTP) Continuum.
Meet with your mentor and school administrator in September/early October to discuss CSTP co-assessment and possible learning goals for the academic year.
Identify your Individual Learning Plan (ILP) goal. Ground your goal in the CSTP co-assessment and triad conversation.
Explore professional identity and deepen connections with students and community through reflection, culturally responsive reading, and partnership-building activities that center equity and inclusion.
Do a focused inquiry cycle: Select a CSTP sub-element, develop a goal for your practice, implement targeted instructional actions, collect evidence of student learning, and reflect on growth to inform future practice.
In May, submit your final portfolio. Share your learning via a live presentation (mentor, Induction Director and/or assessor, and anyone else you would like to invite).
Provide feedback at quarterly check-ins, mid and end-of-year surveys, and informal outreach/check-ins throughout the academic year.
