Description

The Girls Rock After School Program (GRASP) is a 10-week program for youth 8-18 years old. Students attend instrument lessons, form a band, collaboratively write an original song, participate in workshops, and perform with their band at a live showcase.

Sample workshops are zine-making, self-defense, percussion, intro to vocals, music herstory, guide to guitar pedals and more. There will also be performances from local artists during workshop times.

GRASP is located at the Malonga Casquelourd Center for the Arts in downtown Oakland @ 1428 Alice Street. Malonga is fully accessible with access to elevators. There will be some optional off-site field trips.

Applicant Qualifications

GRASP is open to self-identified girls and trans youth ages 8-18 (3rd-12th grade). All musical experience levels are welcome at GRASP and we provide all of the instruments.  No prior musical experience is necessary.
