Group Collaboration Role Cards

Collaboration & Community Skills, Classroom

Group role cards provide a clear reference for students in developing successful collaboration skills.

Overview

These cards describing clearly defined group roles foster students’ collaboration and community skills.

Context

These cards describing clearly defined group roles foster students’ collaboration & community skills. Teachers can use these group roles in many different group work contexts, from daily classwork to special projects. Whenever group work provides a meaningful vehicle for student learning, these clearly defined group roles can be used and adapted to help students reach the goal.

Implementation

Before introducing group work teachers should directly teach each group role’s purpose. Students should also be given feedback on their success. To that end, a Group Collaboration Rubric can be used, with either peers or teachers assessing or both. Successful collaboration usually doesn’t happen immediately. But by repeatedly returning to what respectful collaboration looks like and sounds like, students learn the necessary skills.
